ETH Zürich App

The functions and interface of the existing app were developed without a systematic analysis of user needs. Through interviews, observations, and qualitative analysis, key needs, goals, and challenges were identified. It became clear that, despite the diversity of over 36,000 ETH members – students, lecturers, researchers, and staff – a validated persona could be created. All groups share similar challenges when it comes to orientation on campus, which leads to similar requirements for the app.
The validated persona forms the basis for the app’s functionality and navigation structure. In an iterative process, solutions were developed and validated in testing phases with real users. The focus was on accessibility, user-friendliness, and intuitive interaction.
The result is a well-founded, empirically validated persona and an interactive Figma prototype that has undergone two test cycles. The user-centered approach ensures that the prototype meets the real needs of the target audience, providing the ETHZ development team with a solid foundation for further developing the live app.
